Are you a social media manager? Or are you just trying to navigate the world of social media to promote your own small business or blog?
While there’s a lot of great information on the Internet detailing basic tips for how to manage social media, these two tips are meant to assist you with fine-tuning your social media management. When you keep these two ideas in mind, you’ll find that it is much more manageable to manage social media! Social media can feel exhausting sometimes—but it doesn’t have to be.
Here are the two things you need to do to make social media management that much easier and more doable for you:
1) Focus on the “medium” items.
Too often, we focus on either the big picture or else the small details when it comes to managing social media. But when we only think about the broader purpose of using social media, or the day-to-day posts, we miss out on a really important part: the medium-sized items.
Medium items are things like participating in Twitter chats, remembering special dates (such as National Days relevant to your brand), and cultivating a larger following and building community. Medium items aren’t sexy: the bigger picture items promise big things for your brand, and the small everyday details are the things that you *see* happening. Medium items, however, build consistency and contribute to your reputation. Don’t neglect them just because they don’t seem as sexy as the bigger or smaller items.
2) Prep in advance.
One of the best ways to avoid social media burnout or feelings of overwhelm is to plan ahead, prep posts, and schedule them. You can do this a few days in advance or weeks in advance, or even create social media planning schedules for the next few months.
This will help provide you with structure and enable you to look to the future, rather than just scrambling every single day to find something to post. When you plan ahead—be it with general ideas or physically writing out exactly what the social media post will say—you empower yourself to look beyond right now and continue with confidence in the direction you want to go in.
These are good tips. I’m definitely not organized enough when it comes to social media. Found you via the SITS Sharefest.
Thanks for stopping by! Getting organized can make social media so much more enjoyable 🙂
Great tips! I do try to schedule most posts but I’ve been missing the medium sized items. I must do better! 🙂
Glad you’ve found them helpful!
